Cobras block junior moves
HACKHAM and Cove football clubs are in a standoff over a player, just out of junior ranks, who wants to play for Hackham.
Cove player Adam Nelson, 18, who also won the Bob Ryan Medal for the best player in the Southern Football League under18 competition last season, wants to play for Hackham.
The rule mainly was introduced to stop lower clubs developing players in junior ranks only to lose them to a stronger club when they make senior football. Hackham has been a cellardweller for many seasons.
Hackham coach Marty Clifton said the matter was frustrating.
the boys want to do is to play football where they choose, he said.
Nelson got to know me when I was at South and after I joined Hackham he said he wanted to join us.
has plenty of mates here and just wanted to play with them and be a part of an up and coming group.
Cove released another former junior Adam Halime, also to the Hawks, michael kors femmes, late last month.
Cove president Dean Millman said his club had put plenty of work into its juniors, including Nelson.
has played with Cove since the under 8s, he said.
threeyear rule was brought in to protect clubs from losing junior players to other clubs after putting in the work. We will be holding the player.
Nelson also was in the wars recently when he cut ligaments in his middle finger of his right hand, when opening a tin of tuna.
The injury was likely to sideline him for about four or five weeks.
SFL president Craig Warman said the threeyear rule was internal to the SFL only.
threeyear rule is a good rule. It could be changed but a meeting would need to be called," he said.
SFL WATCHER of South Adelaide Posted at 3:33 PM May 18, 2012
The 3 year rule was introduced at the behest of Hackham football Club as they wanted to stop their juniors going to other clubs. Clifton used his position at South Adelaide Football Club to recruit juniors from other SFL clubs. Actions like this in future will stop clubs encouraging kids to SANFL clubs. Clubs put the work into these kids for 10 or more years encourage them to improve themselves at a higher level only to then lose them to a minnow club where their football will only go backwards with 100 point beltings week in week out. Some should still be at SANFL clubs not chasing $$ at a club like Hackham.
