Cars on the catwalk
Once upon a time a car was just a commodity, louis vuitton outlet, known for functionality, rather than its fashion. Sports cars were merely an extension of a man's anatomy rather than an extension of his personality and snakeskin print was common for shoes rather than interior storage compartments.
In our homage to fashion week, ninemsn Motoring has found some of the most extravagant, quirky and conceptual collaborations between fashion's top designers and the worlds leading car manufacturers.
In 1972, AMC was one of the first companies to collaborate with a fashion designer. And who better to use for its virgin venture than Mr Gucci himself. The AMC Hornet station wagon sported bold printed stripes on the door panels as well as thickly padded seats and of course, the Gucci logo.
Gucci and Cadillac
Gucci capitalized on its success with AMC and stepped it up a notch by teaming up with Cadillac. The 1979 Seville displayed the double G logo elaborately on the hood, as well as emblems adorning the headrests and dashboard. The trunk offered a full range of Gucci luggage.
Armani and Mercedes Benz
With their shared passion for design and style, it was inevitable that Armani and Mercedes would join forces to create this elegant masterpiece: the "MercedesBenz CLK Designo". Based on the CLK 500 Cabriolet, it boasted brown leather interior, a thermotanic climate control system with sun sensors and a V8 engine.
Hermes and Bugatti
Bugatti and Hermes teamed up in 2009 creating an extravagant version of the Veyron Supercar. The Bugatti Veyron Fbg par Hermes was decked from head to toe in bull calfskin; from the luxurious seats, to the usually aluminum dash, little of the interior was spared from the Hermes stamp.

Nissan revealed a new concept car in 09 to celebrate its 20th anniversary of the Infiniti range. Although The Infiniti Essence's sex appeal lay in its minimalist design, its biggest trump card was in the boot where a Louis Vuitton luggage set extended out from the parcel shelf on opening.
Christian Audigier and Lamborghini
Celebrity Fashion designer Christian Audigier and Lamborghini released only 5 of their custom limited edition Murcielago LP710's. Based on the LP640, the Audigier Edition featured matt black body paint and airbrushed decals in true Ed Hardy style.
Paul Smith and Triumph Motorcycles
It's not just cars that get a fashion makeover; Triumph's Bonneville T100 was customized by UK designer Paul Smith in one off retro paint schemes. Only 100 of the two most popular designs were produced globally elevating them to superstar status.
Italia Independent and Alpha Romeo
Italia Independent teamed up with the prestigious Alpha Romeo in a collaboration of all round Italian style in 09. The new Brera featured black leather seats with red stitching as well as leather sports wheel. Trimmed with a linen and cashmere interior, the Italians didn't disappoint when it came to quality.
Tommy Hilfiger and Chevrolet
Tommy Hilfiger used his talents to help raise awareness of breast cancer in 2000. The sleek Tommy Jeans Chevy Cavalier with its indigo denim carpet, red bucket seats and a console mounted phone was Hilfiger's second concept car collaboration with GM motors.
Betsey Johnson and Chevrolet
Betsey Johnson also put her unique stamp on the Chevy for charity in 2000 by "blinging" up the Cavalier z24 coupe in her signature style. The car featured a diamond flecked hot pink finish, a pink faux fur interior carpet, a rhinestone dashboard and her pin up girl logo on the hood for good measure.
