Strange new world at Diary of a trainee teacher
Where do I begin? I feel like the opening line of my first blog should be witty and sharp but my neurons simply aren firing today unfortunately have decided to start a blog to join in on a huuuge community of online teachers/teacher trainers that I have recently discovered, in particular Marisa Constantinides, Nick Jaworskiand Ken Wilson to name just a few. Despite my relatively youngish age, I have never been fond of technology, only using it as far as my needs required, so writing a blog for fun is a big step (especially when I have coursework deadlines approachingand lesson planningto do:P )
To reiterate what I have said elsewhere in this blog, when I discovered blogging I was struck by how the vast majority of bloggers seemed to be what I have labelled of the profession, or at the very least, teachers with a few years of experience under their belt. I thought it was about time a rookie like myself contributed and made myself heard.
I have found that the learning curve for teaching is quite steep, ugg australia pas cher, and the experiences you have in this early stageare a bit of an emotional rollercoaster (to use a cliche). I have had TPs which have made me angry/sad/happy/proud/indifferent/suicidal(joke) and these experiences may be of interest to other trainee teachers like me or to other veterans of ESOL to laugh at and ridicule my inexperience and naivity
I am just approaching the end of a three year course studying for my BA(Hons) in Linguistics and TESOL, I am also provisionally going to complete my PGCE in postcompulsory education (specialising in ESOL Adult literacy) from September 2010 (considering everything goes to plan).
I hope to end up teaching in Israel ideally, but Greece/Turkey and the Arab world are other places where I feel I would be happy. (And it not for the weather either, it has more to do with my linguistic area of interest i actually prefer the cold, maybe I should consider Helsinki?)
Most of my blogs will be focused around my teaching placements, teaching issues that I am faced with or, perhaps something more academic. I am currently studying a module Evaluation and Design so expect a materials related blog soon!
I have recently finished a 10week work placement at a local college teaching general English to adults. I will be continuing there on a volunteer basis for the immediate future though no doubt these lessons will provide additional inspiration for blogs about me anyway I hope you enjoy reading my blogs and that I can help share and disseminate information/links/ideas/thoughts with you all.
